Montbello residents were feeling the impact. “The library is inaccessible because the air conditioning i

January 2026 On Sunday, January 25, the Denver Broncos fell in the AFC Championship game to the New England Patriots 10-7. The two dominant defenses and the extreme weather limited both offenses all game. To make things worse for Denver, their backup quarterback, Jarrett Stidham, had to start his first game of the season after the surprising injury to Bo Nix at the end of the Broncos’ victory over the Bills the week before. It was a brutal ending to an incredible season, but

December 2025 As we come out of winter break and into the new year, the Northfield Nighthawks girls basketball team will look to build on their hot start to the 2025-26 season last December. They started the season with an impressive 7-1 record and won their last three games before the break as part of the Nike Tournament of Champions. Just like the boys team, the Nighthawks’ girls are in their second year as a 6A program. Last year, the team finished with a 12-11 record o

October 2025 Introduction The idea of a level playing field is a central concept in all athletic competition. However, the cost of developing elite athletes may be influencing the chance of success for students. Public high school sports are designed to give everyone an equal opportunity to play and succeed. Money should not matter when athletes are simply playing for their school's team. Is that really the case, though? In US public schools, do the best athletes win, or can

Coming off a 13-10 season in the 4A division in 2024, the step to 5A was going to be tough for the Nighthawks. Looking back on the season, Coach David Miller said, “I think there is a big difference between 4 and 5A. The margins of error are so small … we really had to stay on top of things

September 2025 This is usually a sports column, but this month, we want to focus on something that supports sports and recreation in a different way. The Vibrant Denver Bond is a set of projects to improve Denver’s infrastructure over the next six years, helping people across the city. This bond will renovate and create new recreation centers, libraries and parks. It will also improve transportation, safety and housing. Two projects that will affect the area near Northfield

September 2025 Last Friday, the Northfield Nighthawks beat the South Ravens 10-3 in a defensive battle in front of an enthusiastic homecoming crowd.
