Baseball season is just starting up for your Northfield Nighthawks and they have started the season 3-3. On Friday March 22, the day before spring break, the Nighthawks battled it out with the Denver East Angels in the annual game at Coors Field. For Northfield, school ended early and hundreds of students and teachers for both teams showed up to support their schools. The game would turn out to be a pitchers duel with both starters pitchers pitching 5 or more innings and allowing 2 runs or less. For Northfield, senior Elliot Kurpecky went 6 innings and gave up two unearned runs on just two hits. For East, Stevie Anthony pitched 5 innings while only giving up one run on 3 hits. Henry O’Rear would come in to get the save for the Angels. At the plate, sophomore Adler Hickey led the way going 2 for 3 with a double while sophomore Peter Worth had the team’s lone RBI. For East, no one got on base more than once and all three of their hits were singles.

In the end, it was the errors that ended up costing the Nighthawks. In the game the team had three errors and they were a big reason the Angles scored their only runs in the sixth inning. Overall, the atmosphere at the stadium and the game itself were both incredible and it showed that the Nighthawks have plenty to look forward to this season.

They will come back from spring break with three games in four days against Denver West, Summit, and Westminster. None of those teams are currently above .500 and it should be a great chance for the team to pick up some momentum as the season really gets going.
